How we work not hours we work

The value of a persons job should not be measured by how many hours they work, all time spent at work is Real-Time. This became the message behind UNISON'S Campaign to gain recognition for School Support Staff and Teaching Assistants because too often the term Part-Time is preceded by the word "Only".

Friday the 28th April was the first Awards Evening to highlight the outstanding contributions made to schools by School Support Staff nominated by colleagues, headteachers, parents pupils and other members of the school community.

The event was held at The Lighthouse Poole and around 160 people came to the see the winners of the Real-Time Awards 2006.

From over 100 nominations 11 nominees were shortlisted.

In the support Staff awards there were three winners;

Tina Phelps - Teaching Assistant/Breakfast Manager at Malmesbury Park School, Bournemouth.

Sandra Scammell - Lunchtime Supervisor at Brackenbury Infant School, Portland.

Janet Stopforth - Admin/Reprographics Officer at Dorchester Middle School Dorchester.

The Team Award went to The Science Technician Team at Rossmore Community College, Poole.

The Community Award was won by Anne Murphy - Admin/Finance Officer at Sylvan First School, Poole.

Manager of the Year Award was presented to Phil Copson - Senior Teacher at Ferndown Upper School.
